Buying and selling of sport properties (players and/or clubs) has been an interesting area for investors (especially Asian and Chinese based investors). From the usual summerly hype of transfers (players) to the unpredictable M&A (clubs), sport properties have become home of ever higher investment appetite. Are these “trades” profitable? Do they share any similarity to our normal financial or investment principles?
As these events are still unfolding, it is unclear that who if any will have the last laughs. However, certain outliners including the Sir Alex Ferguson’s way of trading star players, the Davids (small clubs like Southampton) beating Goliaths (Man United and Real Madrid etc) on transfer profits and others, might provide anecdotes (or antithesis?) to financially minded, sport enthusiasts such as fund managers, analysts or corporate finance executives.
HKSFA is pleased to welcome, Mr. Alvin Ho, (CFA, CPA, EMBA, MSc) Managing Director of Allivision, a private investment vehicle which looks to invest and advise on several high growth sectors. Mr. Ho brings with him decades of experience in equity research, private equity, RMB funds and corporate management. Recently, Mr. Ho has authored a book (written in Chinese, namely《誰偷走了紅魔》under his pen-name 艾雲豪) which focuses on the interplay between the development of a famous sporting institution and its behind the scene financial and corporate maneuver. He is also a media host and columnist with particular interest on the business of sports.
This gathering is not qualified for any CPT hours.
